In five minutes in a dive in Kokopo , site called Prawn farm we were at 25 m depth . Water was crystal clear. And out main object was in sight : Ribbon eel. Most would not hold breath about this guy , but I was over the moon . I mean its not every day that you can see it . It really is a rare event. And not seen everywhere around the worlds.
And besides being rarely sighted this strange looking eels hold many surprises. For example the fact Ribbon Eel it changes colours depending of sex and age.
So all eels are Black with yellow dorsal fin at the start of the life. And also Male.
Then when eels is older it changes to light blue with yellow dorsal fin .
And after a while it will turn Yellow and become female and lay eggs.
Life span can be around 20 years for these beautiful creatures. And spotting one in real life is magical .Also its amazing to simply stay still and watch sometimes its possible to see one swimming freely out. And there is a reason its called Ribbon Eel.
