Time to hit the next Town .Thessaloniki .Here we come .Bus tickets in hand and front seats taken .( Bus tickets Lefkas to Thessaloniki -= 36 Euro per person ) I must admit I was feeling a little bit like an old lady at the first seat right at the front of the bus. Mostly awake, but i did have few moments of head hitting window glass on the sleepy moment.
5 hours on the road trough mountains, tunnels over and over again with mad Greek bus driver who smoked every 30 minutes ( really not ....
exaggerating ) and rolling cigarettes while driving .Hands down .He was good driver . The skill to hold cigarette paper while adding tobacco to it and holing a wheel at the same time and driving past a massive trucks is a real skill in my eyes.
Arrival in Thessaloniki was confusing coming from relaxed seaside town with small tavernas in Lefkada ( Vassiliki ) to this .Was def. Shock to the system .
We arrived in Thessaloniki bus terminal , both tired and eagerly waiting to arrive in our booked hotel. We got a bus from main bus terminal and headed towards city center where REWORKS festival was advertised to happen.
We arrived and I kept navigating MAPS.me to the hotel and right before reaching the building we decided to do a quick stop for latte at the little café shop on the side of the busy streets surrounded by 4 and more story buildings.
We sat on plastic chairs outside shop and chatted away about – how we though the festival is going to be.
And the real world really kicked in when we walked up to the hotel entrance and seen quite big sign advertising rooms for 25 Euro a night. We walked in hotel and could see a run down staircase leading up . Something that
resembles reception and a very uninterested lady at the desk wearing pink shirt. She put her phone aside when we said we are here to check in.
Hotel was called HOTEL EUROPA and by the way – name is already misleading(Its not a hotel) . We made a booking trough Booking.Com .
When receptions checked out booking she informed that we will have a room with 4 beds in it and a shared bathroom. And a price for that on Booking.com was 235 Euro for 3 nights.
For this was shock as we do not remember booking a dorm online. Never mind the sign outside hotel saying 25 euro a night .Rip off. When we tried to cancel they informed card will be still charged .so we had to stay .
After talking to receptionist for a while she called someone else and after that call gave us a room only for both of us with own bathroom .Thank god.
When we received good news about change we were relieved of course , but our happiness was short lived. Walked up to the room and when a receptionist opened door for us we kept quiet and just kept staring around.
K closed doors behind her and started cursing I just sat on a bed and looked around . Bed was a double size , but small . Right next to the bed a Balcony door, with no balcony and also you can not fully open balcony door as bed is right in front of it. Historical tv and a bathroom for the grand surprise. So small that when you sit on the toilet – my knees are right against the wall .
But its still a place to sleep . Over all place felt dirty and uncared for.
Walk around town and few familiar faces later we agreed that Thessaloniki is actually quite nice city .Especially on the way back from dinner when street lamps are on .
Now just research bit more about Reworks festival ( reason we arrived to Thessaloniki in the first place ) and then a great night sleep .
After finding switch for AC .Life is good and in evening light this room for 50 euro more a night , than advertised in front is going to do just fine .
Ah well. Learn from mistakes .
And for receptionist .I know its not her fault .She was just very unlucky to be there when we arrived and tried to process all the info . That clearly manifested in cursing and many unkind hand gestures. But who can blame us. Long day , bus after bus and then this….
About this trip : 14 days around Greece . Me and K together .
